About Me

Beginners Guide To Pool Care I felt like I had won the lottery the first time we were able to buy a house which had an inground pool. However, I quickly learned that I knew nothing about pool care. Several years later, I know how to care for our pool year round thanks to advice and help from my local pool contractor. I wanted to start this blog so that I could help other first-time pool owners with what to watch out for regarding their swimming pool. From signs of water leakage to how to winterize your pool, my blog posts are aimed to be educational and informative for pool care newbies.

About Pool Maintenance And Repair Issues

If you have moved into a home with a pool, then you want to make sure you know all about the care and maintenance that it requires in order for you to keep the pool in good condition. If you don't take care of the pool the way that you should be taking care of it, then there are a lot of different things that can end up going wrong with it. From ending up with a pool full of green and unhealthy water to having a broken filter system, just about any part of the pool can be at risk when you ignore things. Here are the basics of pool maintenance you should be aware of as a pool owner:

Regular cleaning services

You want to have someone come out to take care of the cleaning of the pool on a regular basis. The services may only have to be done on a weekly basis. However, there might be times when you need them to come out an extra time, such as after a very large party where many people have been swimming in the pool or after a storm. When someone comes out to service the pool, they will do things like brushing, vacuuming, and netting it. They will also clean out the filter and make sure that the chemicals are right. They will add any necessary chemicals, including chlorine. If the pool isn't cleaned often enough, then it can turn green. If it does, you need to have someone come out right away to correct the issue or you can end up needing to have a lot done, such as having it drained and acid-washed.

Plumbing inspections

You want to have someone come out periodically to check on the filter system to make sure everything is running smoothly and that there aren't any signs of worn parts or problems that are just starting to present themselves. If your pool filtering system goes out on you, then this will lead to a downward spiral of problems that you will have to deal with to get the pool in good swimming condition again. If you notice any changes in the way the system is performing or you start to hear new sounds, then you want to have it looked at and make sure any problems are repaired, no matter how small they may be.

Pool surface repairs

Always keep an eye on the tile and the surface of the pool and be watching for signs of any type of damage. If you start to notice the tiles are coming loose or you notice areas of wear anywhere along the sides or bottom of the pool, then you need to have someone come out to take a look and fix the issues.
